James H. Croy, Vincennes, passed away on July 5, 2023. Jim was born on November 27, 1936, in Vincennes, to Herbert and Frances (Pat) Croy.
Jim is survived by his wife Jerri, a daughter, Michelle Lynn Butler and her husband, Bradley, and his grandchildren, Maci Lauren Butler and Noah James Butler of Plainfield, IN.
Jim graduated from Vincennes Lincoln High School in 1955. He went on to graduate from Indiana University School of Business in 1961, and later he earned a master’s degree in business from Indiana State University.
Jim married Jerri Townsend, of Vincennes, on June 10, 1962, and they lived in Evansville, IN, where he worked for Mead Johnson and Company (now Bristol-Myers-Squibb), as Director of Cost Accounting. In December 1971 he joined the Good Samaritan Hospital as its Controller and Treasurer, and later as its Vice-President of Finance. During his twenty-seven years at Good Samaritan Hospital, Jim was an active member of the Indiana Hospital Financial Management Association and served as its President, during 1979, and Chairman of the Board, during 1980.
After retiring from Good Samaritan Hospital in 1998, Jim served as a substitute teacher in the Vincennes and South Knox School systems, from 2000 to 2017, where he really enjoyed working with the students and teachers.
Jim and Jerri were members of the Monroe City Church of God for many years, where Jim served as Treasurer. In recent years, Jim and Jerri have been members of the Vincennes First Church of God.
Jim also participated in various service clubs, including the Vincennes and Monroe City Kiwanis Clubs, South Knox Community Service Club, South Knox Education Foundation, and Civitan Club.
Visitation for Jim will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2023, from 10:00 am until 11:30 am at the Vincennes First Church of God. Funeral services following at 11:30 with Pastor Will Huebner officiating. Jim will be laid to rest in Memorial Park Cemetery. The Croy family has requested memorial contributions be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
