Indiana Schools Now Equipped with Life-Saving AEDs: New State Law Ensures Preparedness for Emergencies

A new state law ensures that schools are equipped with life-saving technology for emergencies. Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) can make all the difference in situations, potentially saving lives in a heartbeat. Now, Indiana schools are mandated to have AEDs on their premises. The State Department of Education is actively assessing school corporations to determine the number of AEDs they currently possess and how many more they may require. AEDs have already proven their worth. At Monrovia High School, a student’s life was saved during a sudden cardiac arrest incident last school year. Thanks to the quick response of school resource officers equipped with AEDs, the student’s life was spared. With an increasing number of cardiac events affecting younger individuals, having AEDs readily available in schools can make a life-saving difference in critical moments.
