A tragic shooting occurred during a large outdoor party in Muncie on Sunday, leaving one person dead and 17 others wounded. The incident took place at a block party attended by hundreds, and police were attempting to shut down the gathering when the gunfire erupted. The victim of the shooting was identified as 30-year-old Joseph E. Bonner III. The party, hosted by the owner of a business that rents out space for events, had become “out of control,” with an estimated attendance of 500 to 1,000 people. The police were not present at the scene when the shooting happened just after 1 a.m. on Sunday, but they had made a call to the business owner to end the party. Unfortunately, the situation escalated before they could shut it down. Authorities are urging any witnesses with information or evidence related to the shooting to come forward. Among the 17 individuals who survived the shooting, eight remained hospitalized, with one in critical condition, two listed as stable, and the fourth already discharged. The injured included two minors, and there is also a possibility that another person was struck by a car during the commotion. Police are actively investigating the case and are seeking public cooperation to bring those responsible to justice.
