The Daviess County Commissioners met at the Government Center Tuesday morning and heard that work on the Montgomery overhead bridge is still on schedule to be completed by October 3. County Highway Superintendent Chris Winkler told the commissioners that concrete is being poured at the bridge today.
The commissioners also approved Winkler’s recommendation to accept DC Metal’s low bid of $1,018,000 for the construction of a new salt barn.
The commissioners also heard an update on the IRACS program. Program Coordinator Vanessa Phillips reported the Daviess County Security Center has seen a nearly 80% drop in recidivism in populations in the IRACS program. Phillips said the Daviess County IRACS program has been awarded a $100,000 increase in funding for the next fiscal year.
In other business, the Commissioners voted to proceed with placing electrical outlets in the Government Center parking lot and to set up the Government Center basement to house courthouse-based offices during the remodeling process. The commissioners also approved adding a lightning arrester and an electric phase monitor to the government center. Maintenance Supervisor Scott Schnarr told the Commissioners that the absence of the mechanism had already resulted in damage to electronics at the Government Center. The commissioners approved contracts with A&R, Tabor Owens, Don Gress Construction, and Davis Electric.
The commissioners also approved a contract with Doxpop for bulk copying services. County recorder Rosetta Newton told the commissioners that large financial institutions were requesting very large numbers of documents. The commissioners agreed to place the cost of requests for bulk copies at the state-regulated maximum of 20 cents per page. Commissioner Nathan Gabhart said that while the state legislature limits the fee for bulk copies to 20 cents per page, the actual cost to the county is approximately 49 cents per page.
The next commissioners meeting is scheduled for September 26.
