Former Southern Indiana Substitute Teacher Gets 10 Months for Fake Bomb Threats

Mary Fortner, a former substitute teacher in southern Indiana, has been sentenced to 10 months in federal prison after admitting to making hoax bomb threats. Fortner, 35, from Milltown, Indiana, received her sentence on Monday after pleading guilty to two counts of making fake bomb threats. Court records show that on January 19, Fortner used an anonymous messaging app to send a bomb threat to a Milltown police officer. The threat was directed at Crawford County High School, where Fortner was working as a substitute teacher at the time. Police conducted a search at Fortner’s residence on the same day, seizing her cellphone and other devices. Despite multiple interviews, Fortner denied any involvement in the threats. In February, on the 21st, court documents reveal that Fortner sent an email to the Corydon Democrat containing a bomb threat with multiple addresses, including an elementary school and a cinema. Following another search warrant at her home, Fortner was taken into custody the same night. The FBI noted that the threat had originated from a mobile device that had been reset to its factory settings in an attempt to cover up the crime.
