John Edward Houchins

John Edward Houchins, 85, of Vincennes, IN, passed away on Friday, September 29, 2023.
 
He was born on September 22, 1938, to the late Johnson and Sylvia (Robinson) Houchins.
 
He married Patty (Langford) Houchins on September 4, 1964, and she preceded him in death on April 16, 2006 after 41 years together.
 
John was a 1956 graduate of Petersburg High School. He served his country in the United States Army Reserves from 1956 – 1963. Following his service, he enrolled in college at the University of Evansville where he received his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
 
John retired from Hamilton Glass/Gemtron Schott after 34 years as a project engineer. After his retirement, he became a member of the Friends of the Knox Co. Public Library, which led John to a second career at the Knox Co. Public Library. He held various positions in his time there, and had recently retired from his duties this past January.
 
Survivors include his daughters, Brenda Houchins of Vincennes, IN, and Cathy Arndt and her husband Peter of Germantown, WI; one son, Joe Houchins and his wife Sherri of Greenwood, IN; three granddaughters, Jordan PrinceSmith and her husband Austin, Emily and Sarah Arndt; two great-grandchildren, Nolan and Remi PrinceSmith; one brother, Bill (Connie) Houchins; one sister-in-law, Betty Houchins; two brother-in-laws, Bill (Debbie) Langford, Ronnie Langford; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnson and Sylvia (Robinson) Houchins; his brother, Larry Houchins; and two sister-in-laws, Carolyn Langford and Mary Langford.
 
Visitation for John will be held on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, from 4:00 – 8:00pm at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home 524 Broadway St., Vincennes, IN 47591. A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at 11:00am at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home. Friends may visit from 10:00am until the time of the service. Following the service, John will be laid to rest next to his wife Patty in Memorial Park Cemetery in Vincennes.
