Phyllis Jane (Meier) Williams, 91, passed away November 15, 2023, at The Legends Village where she had resided since January.
Born July 16, 1932, in Bicknell, Phyllis was the daughter of Raymond Meier and Grace (Wampler) Meier Baker. She attended both Bicknell and Freelandville schools, was a member of Bicknell Christian Church, baptized at age 12 during Easter Sunday sunrise service. In 1949, she wed Don E. Williams of rural Wheatland, and they made their life together for 63 years until his death May 25, 2012.
In 1958, they moved with four young children to the small farm that would be home for the duration. Four soon became seven, and Phyllis was a busy young homemaker. When her children were grown, she volunteered as a Pink Lady at Daviess Community Hospital, and later, Good Samaritan Hospital’s cardiovascular and oncology units.
After her marriage, Phyllis joined Wheatland Methodist Church (now One Foundation Church), and was an active member and loyal supporter for many years. She had been a member of Friends of the Knox County Public Library. Phyllis enjoyed reading, crocheting, genealogy, playing Scrabble with Tim, watching the birds at her feeders, and attending her grands various events.
Surviving are sons, Tim Williams, Shoals; Mark Williams (Angie), Flat Rock, Illinois; daughters, Penny Williams, San Miguel de Allende, Mexico; Beth McKee, Wheatland; Susan Bell (Bob), Loogootee; Cheryl Marie Williams, Evansville; grandchildren, Christian Toney, Jamison Toney, Ann-Marie Toney, Melinda McKee Carie (C.J.), Alexander Williams, Garrett Williams, Nicholas Ellermann (Elissa), Hayden Bell, Landon Bell, Julianne Bell, Olivia Gilmore (Gui Kono), Luke Gilmore (Symone), grandson-in-law Justin Stoll; step-grandchildren, Amanda Bell Hill (Jared), Brittany Bell (Stuart Collins), Amber Krause Weger (Brad), Lauren Gates Halterman (Nick); and 22 great-grandchildren.
Phyllis was predeceased by her parents, husband, son David A. Williams, granddaughter Elaina Ellermann Stoll, half-sister Jo Ann Land, and half-brother Larry Baker.
Memorial service 6 p.m. Wednesday, One Foundation Church, 330 W. Main, Wheatland, Pastor Jarrod Chattin officiating. Visitation prior to service 4-6 p.m.
