Frank Joseph Kahre 85, a lifelong resident of Vincennes, passed away in Vincennes, Indiana, on December 9, 2023. Born on July 20, 1938, to the late Cecelia Thais Kahre and Frank Carl Kahre , he was a man whose life was marked by kindness, humor, and dedication to his community.
After graduating from Central Catholic in 1956, Frank proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force. He carried the discipline and commitment from his military service into his civilian life, where he embarked on a career as an insurance agent, for over two decades. His professional journey did not end there, as he later took on roles at GSH, and even after retirement, sought to contribute to the community through his work at Ewing Printing.
An active member of Knights of Columbus, Frank embodied the organization’s principles of charity and fraternity. Recognized with an honorary lifetime membership and a third-degree member status, he also served as a past Grand Knight. His Catholic faith was central to his life, and he was a devoted parishioner of St. John’s Catholic Church.
Family was the cornerstone of Frank’s existence. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Catherine “Katy” Kufner Kahre, and their son, Frank Kahre. Grieving the loss of their patriarch are his grateful children, Dave Kahre (Gayle), of Franklin, Stephen Kahre (Kimiko), Christina McCrary (Scott) both of Vincennes. His love and lessons live on in his grandchildren, Nathan, David, Jacob, Melissa, and Shawn Kahre, and Gus and Kahre McCrary.
Frank’s siblings, Jane Shafer of Vincennes and Bill Kahre, of Avon share the loss of their brother, along with the cherished memories of their shared upbringing in Vincennes. He joins in rest a grandson Ken Kahre, his sister, Ellen Kahre, and brothers, Michael and Steve Kahre, who all predeceased him.
