Lyndall Sue Brittain McCracken, 88, of West Lafayette, Indiana, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, February 27, 2024. Lyndall was born in Washington, Indiana on May 22, 1935 to the late Millard Eddison (Jake) Brittain and Velma Trayler Pride Brittain.
After Graduating from Washington High School in 1953, Lyndall went on to attend Vincennes University. She married George Edwin McCracken on March 18, 1956. She worked in Accounting for Washington National Bank, Sears, and Crane Naval Weapons Center. After she and George divorced in 1984, Lyndall moved to Ft. Myers, FL where she worked as unit clerk/telemetry specialist for Southwest Florida Regional Medical Center. After retiring, Lyndall moved back to Washington to care for her ailing mother. After her mother passed, Lyndall moved to West Lafayette, IN to be closer to her children.
Lyndall was a member of Lafayette Christian Church and a former member of Christ United Methodist Church of Washington. She was a member of the Washington Chapter #210 of the Order of the Eastern Star. Lyndall loved to cook and to entertain family and friends. She was the quintessential 1960’s Betty Crocker homemaker.
Lyndall is survived by her two children: a daughter, Cheryl (Howie) Reiff of Burnettsville, IN and a son, Glen (Candace) McCracken of West Lafayette, IN. A brother, Alan (Janet) Brittain of Shreveport, LA also survives. She leaves six grandchildren: Grant (Lisa) Reiff of Manchester, MI; Brittainy (Nathan) Hough of Chelsea, MI; Harrison (Libby) Reiff of West Lafayette, IN; Taylor (Kathryn) Reiff of Bridgeton, MO; Garrett McCracken of Portland, OR; and Richard McCracken of Burnettsville, IN. Seven great-grandchildren also survive: Garrison and Jacquelyn Reiff, Tyler, Alex, and Natalie Hough, Henry Reiff, and Vincent Reiff. Multiple nieces and nephews also survive.
Lyndall is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Bill Brittain and Ronald Brittain.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Oak Grove Cemetery in Washington, IN. A Memorial Service for family and friends will be held later that same day at 3:00 PM at Christ United Methodist Church, Washington, IN with Pastor Jennifer Weaver officiating. The family will be available for visitation for 30 minutes prior to and following the Memorial Service.
