Washington Community Schools Business Manager Carrie Alford was recognized at Monday night’s School Board Meeting for being recognized as the District 9 School Business Manager of the Year by the Indiana Association of School Business Officials. The board congratulated Alford for receiving the honor. Washington Superintendent Kevin Frank praised Alford and her contributions to the Washington Schools.
Asst. Superintendent Steve Peterson announced that on Tuesday, Governor Holcomb announced the highly competitive Indiana’s Stem Team scholarship, and for the second year in a row, a Washington student was recognized. Xavier Frank was named an honorable mention. Only two other schools in the state have had students honored for two consecutive years.
In the personnel segment of the meeting, the board approved several administrative changes in the school corporation. Kristin Murphy was named the new principal, and Brenda Meredith was named dean at Washington Primary. Rhiannon Fry will be principal at Washington Upper Elementary, with Emily Davis serving as dean. Chris Ashworth was named the new assistant principal at Washington High School. Jay Wildman will be the principal at Washington Intermediate and Veale Elementary. The Board also approved contracts for Phillip Walley, math and physics instructor at WHS; Emily Johnson, high school math; Meagan Willmoth, junior . high science; Tiffany Walley, elementary teacher; and Kaitlyn Stovall, sub, for leave of absence at junior high. The board approved a contract addendum for Tom Lee, who will move to the classroom. The Board also received a resignation from Madison Wagler and granted a leave of absence to Anna Mendel.
In other business, the board received a quarterly report from Sodexo. The board heard about on-going building inspections, maintenance, and preventative maintenance. The report from food service reported that over 189,000 meals had been served to Washington students during the school year. A rise of more than 30,000 meals over last year. The board also learned that the menu rotation will be shortened, allowing greater choices for students next year.
The Board also approved an athletic training contract with Jewett’s JSOH Family Health and Performance. The board will also hold a public work session where board members will discuss the findings of the recent facilities study. Members of the public are urged to attend the work sessions.
