The Vincennes Police Department and Knox County Sheriff’s Office are joining forces with law enforcement agencies across the state to promote seat belt safety ahead of the Click It or Ticket campaign. This effort, coinciding with the Memorial Day holiday, will run from today to June 2. The initiative includes overtime patrols funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration through grants administered by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute. While Indiana’s seat belt use rate was 93.2% last year, there is still room for improvement. Research consistently shows that seat belts significantly reduce the risk of injury or death in a crash by up to 65%. The campaign aims to remind the remaining 6.8% of people about the life-saving importance of buckling up.
