Terre Haute Man Arrested in Gibson County for High-Speed Chase and Drug Charges

A Terre Haute man, Joseph Smock, 20, faces multiple charges after being stopped by police for driving at speeds nearing triple digits in Gibson County, south of Knox. The incident occurred just after midnight on Monday on U.S. 41 and County Road 100 West. Police reported that Smock was driving at 98 mph in a 60 mph zone. Upon stopping the vehicle, officers detected the smell of marijuana and took Smock and a passenger into investigative custody. Smock provided a false name to avoid arrest due to several outstanding warrants. He was charged with refusal to identify, possession of a firearm with an altered serial number, dealing cocaine, and possession of a schedule drug. Smock’s existing warrants from Vigo County include charges for dealing cocaine, possession of cocaine, possession of methamphetamines, and possession of a schedule drug.
