Southern Indiana, particularly Newburgh, experienced significant storm damage yesterday, with the community banding together to clear trees from roadways. Newburgh was not alone in facing the storm; other areas in the Tri-State were also affected. At one point on Tuesday evening, over 35,000 CenterPoint customers were without power. Vincennes saw a severe thunderstorm with winds exceeding 60 mph around 11 a.m. This storm caused downed trees, power lines, and outages. A tree fell on a home on Ritterskamp Avenue, and another struck the Beckes Student Union on the Vincennes University campus. Crews responded to live wires down across the town, and approximately 200 WIN Energy REMC customers around Knox County lost electricity. No injuries were reported from the storm. Additionally, the National Weather Service confirmed an EF-2 tornado in Western Madison County on Monday night, with winds reaching 130 mph. The tornado began as an EF0 in Hamilton County before intensifying in Madison County. The storm caused severe damage to the Frankton-Lapel Community Schools Administration Building, lifting the gymnasium roof and throwing it 150 yards north. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported.
