Dixie J. Scales, 82, of Petersburg, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 4, 2024, at Amber Manor Care Center. She was born January 6, 1942 to Norman and Helen (Jones) McCrary in Washington, IN. Dixie loved to work in the yard, play golf, play cards, camp, and fish. She and her husband Bill enjoyed sitting at the park and feeding the ducks together. She was a lifetime member of the Women of the Moose Lodge #1617. Dixie married her husband, William Scales, on September 1, 1957.
Dixie is survived by her son, Randy (Traci) Scales of Petersburg; daughter, Pam (Joe) Bates of Douglasville, GA; grandchildren, Lara (Ansel) Tjin A Tam, Tiffani (Chris) Britton, Michelle Goebel, Jacy Duncan, BJ (Brittany) Scales, and Matt Goebel; great grandchildren, Breanna Britton, Brileigh Whitney, Rowan Lechner, Mila Tjin A Tam, Kinzlee Britton, Noah Britton, Maverick Schiff, Halle Tjin A Tam, Kentric Scales, Gryffin Scales, and Daxon Karlson; brother, Norman (Judy) McCrary of Jasper; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Scales; her daughter, Tammy Dunigan; her grandson, Jayden Rottet; her parents; and a sister, Wilma Tuttle.
A funeral service for Dixie will be held at 2 PM EST on Wednesday, August 7, at Harris Funeral Home in Petersburg, IN with visitation from 10 AM until service time. Pastor Mike Bean will be officiating and burial will follow at Wilson Creek Cemetery in Monroe City, IN. The family of Dixie would like to thank all of the staff of the Amber Manor Care Center for their constant care and compassion of Dixie all of the years she was there.
