On September 29, Anderson Avelar, 19, of Jasper, was arrested following a reckless driving complaint. The Jasper Police Department received reports of a vehicle making dangerous passes and speeding. Officers later spotted the suspect’s Infiniti G37 traveling at 88 mph in a 35 mph zone on South Newton Street. Upon stopping the vehicle, officers observed signs of impairment. A chemical test revealed Avelar had a blood alcohol content of.223% and the presence of cannabis. Avelar was lodged in the Dubois County Security Center and charged with OWI over .15, OWI endangerment, reckless driving, criminal recklessness, and minor consumption. Deputies from the Dubois County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the arrest.
