Daviess County leaders, residents, and Indiana University faculty and students have begun work on 20 new community-driven projects this fall, as part of the IU Center for Rural Engagement’s Sustaining Hoosier Communities (SHC) initiative. Key initiatives include placemaking designs in Elnora, Montgomery, and Washington, Black heritage oral history projects, business strategies for the I-69 corridor, a cross-dock and transload facility, and efforts to expand childcare and recreational options. More than 25 IU courses and 275 students are involved in supporting these local efforts. Cindy Barber, SHC committee member and Purdue Extension Director, highlighted that the partnership will push long-awaited community goals forward.
