The Daviess County Council met in its regular November meeting Wednesday morning. The Council approved the county’s 2025 salary ordinance and next year’s meeting schedule. The Council also heard a presentation about the proposed Kratos expansion at WestGate, a report from Coroner-elect Tyler Council on a grant that would establish an outreach to suicide survivors, and an update from Chief Deputy Sheriff Steve Sturgis and Emergency Management Director Scott Myers on the new county-wide emergency communication system.
In other business, the Council approved requests from the coroner’s office for an additional $20,000 for autopsies. Tyler Council told the County Council that the number of deaths requiring autopsies was at record levels this year. In The council members also approved an extra $5,000 for the Deputy Coroner. The Council also approved appropriations for the Superior Court, funding from the E-9-1-1 account for new emergency radio equipment, a HAVA federal grant for the past election, and restricted and unrestricted funds received from the opioid settlement. The Council also approved several fund transfers within the budgets of the Sheriff’s Department, Prosecutor’s Office, Community Corrections, and the Clerk’s Office for election expenses. The next County Council meeting is scheduled for 8:15 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 11.
