Knox County Introduces New Technology to Combat Drug-Impaired Driving

knox-county-sheriffs-office

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office is stepping up efforts to address drug-impaired driving with new technology and training. The department has adopted the SoToxa™ Oral Fluid Mobile Test System, a handheld device that detects six types of drugs, including cocaine, methamphetamine, cannabis, and opiates, using an oral fluid swab. Two deputies, Kein Stein and Brayten Potter, have been certified as law enforcement phlebotomists through a program at Vincennes University. This allows them to draw blood from suspected impaired drivers under state-authorized policies, reducing delays and simplifying evidence collection.
