The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) Southwest District is gearing up for winter weather with a training exercise held today. More than 150 yellow INDOT trucks will hit state-maintained highways and interstates to test equipment and familiarize drivers with their routes. This training helps new drivers gain on-the-road experience and allows seasoned drivers to share expertise. The exercise will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. EST. No de-icing materials will be applied during the training.
As the weather remains colder, INDOT advises motorists to:
Adjust speeds on snow-covered roads.
Avoid tailgating or driving beside snowplows.
Prepare an emergency kit with essentials like food, water, a flashlight, and blankets.
Keep vehicles fueled and check batteries, fluids, and spare tires.
Monitor weather updates and road conditions through the TrafficWise map at 511in.org or the INDOT mobile app.
