The 34th annual Cops and Kids event, organized by the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 101, will once again bring Christmas joy to children in Daviess and Martin Counties. Scheduled for December 19, at the Washington Walmart, the event provides clothing and toys for approximately 135 children from Head Start and Kidstuff programs. Local law enforcement, firefighters, court officials, and other first responders will volunteer to shop with the children, looking to spend $200 per child. After shopping, the children will enjoy an escort with lights and sirens back to their schools, where McDonald’s will provide lunch. Along the way, they’ll meet Santa, the Grinch, Sparky, and McGruff. Donations are crucial to the event’s success and are being accepted at police and sheriff’s departments in both counties. Checks can be made payable to FOP Cops and Kids. For more information, contact Keith Hinderliter at 812-698-9769. This tradition has been made possible for 33 years by the generosity of local organizations, businesses, and individuals.
