Joan Harker, 86, of Alfordsville, Indiana, passed away peacefully at her home on December 18th, 2024. Born on July 31, 1938, in Haysville, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Clispy and Leona (Sullivan) Dorsam.
Joan dedicated much of her life to public service, serving as the Reeve Township Trustee for an impressive 36 years, from 1987 to 2023. She also held the position of secretary and treasurer for the Old Union Cemetery. Her commitment to her community was further exemplified by her active membership in the Alfordsville Methodist Church and her long-standing involvement with the Gold Wing Road Riders Association for approximately 30 years. Joan was also a former member of the Think Young Homemaker Club.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Darrell Freyberger, her second husband, Ronnie Harker, her daughter Myrna Freyberger, her son Charles Freyberger, and her brothers Lowell and Russell Dorsam.
Joan is survived by her loving daughters, Darlene (Leon) Schmitt of Ireland, Elaine (Chris) Craney of Holly Springs, North Carolina, and Jill Freyberger (Chris Allen) of Alfordsville. She leaves behind 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, as well as her daughter-in-law, Connie Freyberger, sister-in-law, Sue Dorsam, and stepchildren, Tony Harker and Elizabeth Harker.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 21st, 2024, at Blake Funeral Home in Loogootee, with burial to follow in Alfordsville Community Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Friday, December 20th, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Blake Funeral Home in Loogootee
