Larry (Lawrence) Dean Burks

June 8, 1955 – December 22, 2024

Larry (Lawrence) Dean Burks, 69, of Washington, Indiana, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2024. Born on June 8, 1955, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Don Burks and Patricia (Pettigrew) Burks, Larry lived a vibrant and colorful life filled with passion, humor, and love.

Larry was a rebel with a cause, living by the motto of “fighting the man” and standing up for those who couldn’t fight for themselves. A creative and free spirit, he used art to bring joy to others and shared countless stories of his younger days living life on the wild side. With a love for rock and roll and a zest for making the most of life, Larry often reminded his loved ones: “Party as much as you can, while you can.”

A devoted father, Larry’s greatest pride was his daughters, Samantha Burks, Ashley (John) Sanders, and Whitney (CJ) Albrecht. He also adored his grandchildren—Damon (Nancy) Sanders, Ryann Malone, Colby Albrecht, Coraline Albrecht, Blake Keene, and Jaylan Large—and cherished his great-granddaughter, Maiya Sanders.

Larry’s career as a welder and ironworker took him to many places, keeping him constantly on the move. He had a deep love for animals, sharing his life with numerous dogs and even a stray cat he secretly let in through his window. Known as “Larry Bling,” he embraced this nickname with flair, expressing it through his jokes, wardrobe, and signature love of jewelry.

Larry’s generosity was boundless; he often gave away his belongings to those in need. He was also a master storyteller with a sharp sense of humor and a playful streak, never missing the chance to entertain and make others laugh.

Despite a lifelong battle with mental illness and, more recently, dementia, Larry’s resilience and indomitable spirit shone through. He will be remembered for his stories, his humor, and his fierce love for his family.

Per Larry’s request, there will be no formal service. Instead, family and close friends will gather for a celebration of life in a place that held great memories for him, where his spirit can be honored in the way he would have wanted.

Larry’s legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His family will carry forward his humor, vibrant energy, and the enduring spirit of “Larry Bling,” ensuring his light will never fade.
