A 54-year-old inmate at the Terre Haute federal prison died Monday evening after being assaulted. According to officials, Charles Lee Smoot was attacked around 7:30 PM and was pronounced dead at the scene. A second individual was injured in the incident and received medical treatment. Smoot was serving an eight-year sentence for bank robbery and a supervised release violation. He had been incarcerated at the Terre Haute facility since September. The incident is under investigation.
