thumbnail_image0-3

The former Antique Bar, a historic landmark in downtown Washington, was destroyed in a devastating fire on Thursday afternoon. Crews from Washington, Vincennes, and other surrounding agencies worked tirelessly for several hours to combat the blaze, which consumed the building and led to a complete loss. The fire was reported around 3:27 p.m. at the intersection of Main and 1st streets. Heavy smoke was visible as firefighters deployed ladder trucks and additional manpower, including off-duty responders. Efforts were further complicated by a roof collapse and low water supply, prompting assistance from the water department and street department. Despite the severity of the fire, no injuries were reported. The Red Cross provided food and supplies for first responders on the scene. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire, and additional details will be released as they become available. Use caution while traveling downtown Washington this morning. The roadways will be slick from the excess water from the structure fire.
