John Joseph Cahill

John Joseph Cahill, 74, passed away at the Ascension Hospital of St. Vincent in Evansville on January 12, 2025. He was born in Washington on December 18, 1950, the son of Joseph and Lillian M. (Garner) Cahill.

John was a 1971 graduate of Washington High School. He had been employed at Hoefling Truck and Tractor in Washington where he was the custodian. John loved watching basketball and he was such a devoted fan and supporter of Washington Hatchet Basketball that he was named as their Number 1 Super Fan. Always outgoing and friendly, John was a popular regular at the White Steamer in Washington.

Those who are left to cherish John’s memory include: his son, John F. (Lisa) Cahill in Illinois; grandson, Jackson Cahill in Illinois; niece, Amy (David) DeNise in Michigan; nephew, Greg Potts of Louisville, Kentucky; and niece, Christine (Mike) Terry of Louisville, Kentucky. John also leaves three sisters: Joanna Jones of Washington; Sara Jane (Larry) Potts of Louisville, Kentucky; and Jean (Robert) Romain in Michigan.

During his lifetime, John mourned the loss of his parents, Joseph and Lillian Cahill; and a nephew, Andy Allen.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in John’s name to the Washington Lady Hatchets Basketball Booster Club, 608 East Walnut Street, Washington, Indiana 47501.

Visitation for John Cahill will be 3:00-8:00 pm, Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at the Ed L. Lee Mortuary, 620 East Viola Avenue, Washington, Indiana.

Funeral services for John Cahill will be 1:00 pm, Thursday, January 23, 2025, at the Ed L. Lee Mortuary. Yvonne Evans will officiate. Burial will be in the St. John Cemetery.
