Knox County Sheriff’s Office Warns of New Scam Targeting Families

knox-county-sheriffs-office

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office is alerting residents to a scam in which fraudsters use the inmate search feature on JailTracker and the Sheriff’s App to contact family members. Scammers falsely claim they can secure the release of incarcerated loved ones for a fee. Officials urge the public not to send money or share personal information with unknown callers or email senders. Additionally, individuals on the Indiana Sex and Violent Offender Registry have reported receiving threatening calls demanding payment to avoid arrest. Many of these scam calls appear to come from 812-813-8265, but authorities confirm this is a spoofed number. Residents are reminded: The Sheriff’s Office will never call and demand money. If you receive such a call, ignore it and block the number. Stay vigilant and verify any claims through official sources.
