Susan Kay Brewer

Susan Kay Brewer, affectionately known as Susie, passed away peacefully and surrounded by her family at her home in Loogootee, Indiana on January 31, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on September 2, 1943, in Richland, Indiana, she was the beloved daughter of Wilford and Thelma Yelland.

Susie was a devoted wife to John F. Brewer Sr., whom she married in August 22, 1964. Together, they shared many wonderful years until his passing on June 12, 1992. She was a loving mother to her children, Sharon Knecht (Cydney Hubbard), John Brewer Jr. (Angie), Deborah Peters (Brian), and Jennifer Brewer (Martin), and a cherished grandmother to her grandchildren, Emma Knecht, Jacob Knecht, Danielle Hammer, Shayla Brewer, Estralia Brewer, Elijah Brewer, Emily Young, Jordan Renee, Rhiley Peters, and Kaylyn Peters and great-grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Mary Bosecker and Rebecca Trogden and sister-in-law, Sheila Yelland.

Susie graduated from Wolfe County High School in 1960. Her career spanned 27 years at Jasper Corporation, where she retired in 2006. Susie was an active member of her community, serving on the Loogootee City Council (2004-2011) and appointed to the Board of Works in 2006. Her faith was central to her life, and she was a dedicated member of St. John Catholic Church and the Daughters of Isabella. Susie was also known for her musical talent, playing the organ for both St. John Catholic Church and St. John Lutheran Church.

Susie had a passion for sewing and was an avid fan of Loogootee Lions basketball and Indiana University basketball, especially admiring Bobby Knight. She loved to travel with her sisters and nieces. Above all, she treasured her family and the time spent with them.

She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and sisters, who will all miss her dearly. Susie was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and siblings, Patricia (Mike) Ellis and David Yelland.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Very Rev. J. Kenneth Walker at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 7, 2025 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Loogootee. Burial will follow in St. Martin Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Thursday, February 6th, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Blake Funeral Home and Friday, February 7th, 2025 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at church. Condolences may be made online at www.blakefuneralhomes.com.
