IURC Approves CenterPoint Rate Hike, Bills to Rise by 20%

images-20

The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) has approved CenterPoint Energy’s rate increase, a decision that will raise customer bills by approximately 20% in the coming months. The rate hike will be implemented in two phases, with the first increase taking effect March 1, and the second in March 2026. While CenterPoint still needs to submit a compliance filing for final approval, experts say it is unlikely to be rejected. The rate hike has sparked frustration among many customers. In response, CenterPoint Energy stated that the rate adjustment supports infrastructure modernization, energy diversification, and environmental compliance. The company is currently reviewing the IURC’s 206-page order and plans to release estimated bill impacts soon.
