The Loogootee library is inviting families to its Sensory Hour on February 24 at 3:30 PM, a special program designed to create a welcoming space for children of all abilities. Sensory Hour provides a free-play environment where kids can enjoy activities such as Play-Doh, crafts, fidget toys, coloring, and Legos—all in a relaxed setting where noise and movement are encouraged. The program aims to help children, including those who may feel overwhelmed in structured settings, feel comfortable and engaged at the library. Volunteer Elizabeth Mathias, who helped launch the program, emphasized its benefits for socialization, especially for children who may have missed out on interactions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Parents are required to stay with their children, though they are welcome to browse the library while remaining nearby. The event is geared toward young children up to about 8-10 years old, but there is no strict age limit. No registration is required—families can simply drop in between 3:30 and 4:30 PM. The library hopes for a strong turnout to continue expanding the program.
