Regional Opportunity Initiatives (ROI) recently honored the City of Washington and the Daviess County Economic Development Corporation with the Quality of Place Attraction Award for their Commons project. This $3.1 million downtown development transformed three-quarters of a city block into a vibrant outdoor gathering space, featuring the German American Stage, TruScripts Market Pavilion, and Knights of Columbus Event Pavilion. The award was presented during ROI’s Annual Report to the Region in French Lick, where Denny Spinner, former Mayor of Huntingburg and current director of the IU Center for Rural Engagement, also received the Becky Skillman Regional Leadership Award. ROI recognized individuals and organizations making significant contributions to education, workforce development, and community enhancement in the Indiana Uplands region.
