washington-police

On March 1st, Deputy Hunter Goble of the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office was injured in a vehicle collision while responding to an EMS call near Old US Highway 50 and CR 300 W. At around 1:29 a.m., Deputy Goble and two other deputies were en route to assist a female who had fallen out of a vehicle when a 2010 Dodge Challenger failed to yield the right of way and pulled into Goble’s path. Despite efforts to avoid the collision, Deputy Goble’s patrol car was struck and sent off the road into a ditch, while the Challenger remained on the road with heavy damage. The driver of the Dodge Challenger, Karina Hernandez, 20, from Monroe City, and three passengers—Jose Mora, Hector Mora-Salina, and Kolbi Simmons—were involved in the crash. Hector Mora-Salina and Kolbi Simmons were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while Jose Mora was treated at the scene for bruising. Deputy Goble sustained a head injury, along with pain in his right arm and leg, and lacerations to his head, arm, and leg. He was taken to Jasper Memorial Hospital and later released. Hernandez, who was found to have a BAC of 0.229% along with THC and opiates in her system, was transported to the hospital for complaints of pain. She was later arrested and preliminarily charged with multiple offenses, including Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated (OVWI) causing serious bodily injury, Driving While Suspended, and Minor Consuming. Hernandez was also found to be driving without insurance and had a prior OVWI conviction from January 2025.
