Sectional 62 continues to prove that it’s the best 1A sectional in the state as Orleans defeated Clinton Prairie 64-55. A first-time state finalist in the state tournament’s modern era, Orleans’ boys’ basketball championship marks the first in program, school and Orange County history.
In 2A Manchester defeated University 59-54 in a back and forth game that was still tied as the game went into the final 2 minutes.
In 3A, A year after seeing a fourth-quarter lead slip in the state finals, South Bend Saint Joseph made sure history did not repeat itself with a 56-52, over Indianapolis Crispus Attucks. It’s a first-ever state title for the Huskies in boys basketball and the first for a South Bend school in the sport since Clay High School in 1994. Saint Joseph was the 18th team in IHSAA history to make a return trip to the state finals a year after losing. Those teams are now 14-4 in those contests, with the Huskies being the first Class 3A team to accomplish the feat.
