The City of Loogootee has announced progress on the Oak Street Village development, a major $14 million project that will bring 50 units of workforce housing to the community. Led by Joe White of JBH Ventures and Travis Vencel of Sullivan Development, the project is advancing. Designed specifically for young families and working residents, the development will feature modern units. Officials emphasized that this is not a Section 8 project, but an affordable workforce housing initiative to support those living and working in Loogootee and Martin County. Plans also include a standalone public daycare center. The project team is exploring partnerships to offer soft skills training, certifications, and financial literacy programs, with the long-term goal of helping residents transition to homeownership. Pending final city approvals, a July groundbreaking is being targeted. Additional community amenities include a coworking-style community center, outdoor pickleball courts, and a public park with a pavilion. A project website is also in the works to provide updates and pre-leasing information as construction progresses.
