Emergency crews responded to a dramatic rescue late Monday morning after two vehicles became stranded in rising water near the intersection of County Road 300 E and State Road 58. Authorities received the call around 10:54 a.m. reporting that one vehicle occupant was still inside as water began entering the cabin. The driver managed to climb on top of his Nissan as water rose to waist level. The Elnora Volunteer Fire Department and deputies launched a rescue boat around 11:30 a.m., and by 11:40 a.m., the driver was safely brought into the boat and out of harm’s way. A box truck also went off the roadway during the incident. All units cleared the scene shortly after noon. No injuries were reported, and the incident serves as a reminder to avoid flooded roadways during periods of high water.
