Floodwaters Submerge Multiple Roads in Shoals; Emergency Shelter Now Open

river-flood-warning-2

Rising floodwaters have submerged numerous roads throughout the Town of Shoals, prompting local officials to issue an urgent safety warning and open an emergency shelter for displaced residents. Currently, the following roads are underwater: Main Street (near 8th and Spout Springs), Sherfick School Road, Ironton, Water Street, West River Road, East River Road, Chicken Farm Road, parts of 1st Street, Low Street, Hedge Street, 2nd Street, High Street, 7th Street, and 8th Street. Other affected areas include McBride Bluff, Butler Bridge, Windom Road, Hickory Ridge Road, and the intersection of Poplar and Stephens. Residents are strongly urged not to drive through flooded roads—even if the pavement appears visible. For residents impacted by the flooding, an emergency shelter is now open at Shoals Community School Corporation. If your family has been displaced or needs assistance, call the Town of Shoals at 812-247-2110. Duke Energy will begin disconnecting electricity to flood-affected homes on Low Street and High Street starting this morning, April 10th. Residents needing relocation assistance should contact Shoals Town Hall to be added to a list being shared with the American Red Cross, which will provide aid. Please check on neighbors who may be affected and help share this information to keep the community safe.
