Michael A. Thompson

Beloved teacher and coach at South Knox Community School Corporation, Michael A. Thompson passed away October 17, 2022. He was the son of Maurice and Martha Begeman Thompson and was born September 1, 1947. He graduated from Fritchton High School, Vincennes University, and Indiana State University, graduating with a master’s degree in Education. He married Charlotte Hatton Thompson in 1968 and was the father of three children. He taught Government and US History for 39 years at South Knox High School. He also coached basketball, baseball, and golf and considered his former students and players his best friends. Anyone who knew Mike knows he was a lifelong fanatical White Sox fan. In high school he listened to games on his transistor radio and in later years recorded games on T.V.; he rarely missed a game. His happiest day was when the White Sox won the World Series in 2005. When baseball season was over, it was on to the Chicago Bears and then IU basketball as he anxiously awaited the new baseball season, even going with his brother-in-law Bruce to Arizona to watch spring training. He followed in his mother’s footstep’s and was a proud Democrat. He loved teaching Government and proudly served on the Knox County Council for 22 years. Mike was a member of Indiana Presbyterian Church serving as a trustee and an elder. He enjoyed listening to Bob Dylan music and had a wide collection. He is survived by his wife Charlotte, his daughters Juile Palmer and Jennifer Blaize, his brother Steve Thompson, sister Debbie Loudermilk Pinney, and seven grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents, his sister Sandra Robinson and son Andy Thompson. Funeral services will be Saturday October 22nd, 2022 at Goodwin Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10-2 with the funeral service at 2:00. Burial will be next to his son at Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the South Knox Athletic Department.
