The Indiana Pacers dropped to 3 and 4 on the young season last night with a 116 – 109 loss to the Brooklyn Nets in the second of back to back games in Brooklyn. Chris Duarte led the Pacers with 30 points while Kevin Durant led all scorers with 38. Tyrese Halibuton had 8 rebounds to lead the team and Buddy Hield had 7 assists. Pacers next see action on Friday at home versus the Miami Heat and Evansville native Dru Smith.
Following a 24-17 loss at Rutgers on Oct. 22, coach Tom Allen said Indiana has to improve at quarterback, and he would evaluate every possible option during the bye week.On Monday, Allen said the evaluation will continue this week in practice leading up to Indiana’s matchup against Penn State in Week 10 saying “You’ll have to wait ’til Saturday to see who our starting quarterback is going to be,”
Indiana quarterback Connor Bazelak has started all eight games during the 2022 season, leading the Hoosiers to a 3-5 record. It’s notable that he didn’t speak at Monday’s press conference after appearing on a weekly basis since Sept. 5. Bazelak has completed 208 of 379 pass attempts for 2,099 yards, 12 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Through eight games, Bazelak is seven yards shy of Indiana’s total passing output in 12 games in 2021, and he’s third among Big Ten quarterbacks in passing yards. But he’s struggled with accuracy and turnovers, completing 54.9 percent of passes, which ranks last in the Big
Frank Reich announced today that defensive end Tyquan Lewis suffered a season ending knee injury. Lewis tore his patella tendon on Sunday during the Washington Commanders game, which is his second season ending knee injury in back-to-back years. Lewis has been a bright spark all year on the defensive line for the Colts and his position versatility has been invaluable. Lewis is scheduled to be a free agent at the end of the year so it will be interesting to see if his latest injury affects the Colts wanting to re-sign him.

The Philadelphia 76ers will have their second-round picks in the 2023 and 2024 NBA drafts taken away from them as a result of violating free agency rules by having early discussions with forwards P.J. Tucker and Danuel House Jr, the NBA announced Monday afternoon. In its announcement, the league said the draft picks were taken away because the 76ers engaged in discussions with both players “prior to the date when such discussions were permitted.”

Auburn fired coach Bryan Harsin on Monday following a 41-27 loss to Arkansas, putting an end to an awkward and unsuccessful tenure on The Plains. Harsin was relieved of his duties as the Tigers fell two games below .500 to 3-5 on the season with the program dropping 10 of its last 13 games and nine of its last 10 against Power Five opponents dating back to last season. Harsin finishes 9-12 (4-9 SEC) in less than two full seasons on the job after taking over for Gus Malzahn following the 2020 campaign. Frustrations over roster and coaching staff turnover, as well as Harsin’s failure to sign a single player on the traditional National Signing Day in February, kicked off a week-long saga during which powerful people associated with the Auburn athletic department reportedly sought to fire Harsin for cause. The move would have allowed those in power to avoid paying a roughly $15 million buyout. Let the rumor mill run wild to fill this big time head coaching position.

Cool story out of Major League Baseball…. umpires have a huge responsibility to get every call correct during the World Series. And with the advancement of replays and challenges in MLB, umpires are under more fire than ever when they make a bad call.
For home plate umpire Pat Hoberg, he was able to stay on an even keel and call a “perfect game” in Game 2 of the World Series between the Philadelphia Phillies and Houston Astros on Saturday. According to the Umpire Scorecards account on Twitter, Hoberg called each of the game’s 129 pitches correctly in the Astros’ 5-2 win.
Not bad for Hoberg, 36, who was calling his first World Series game in his career after serving as a reserve umpire in Game 1 of the World Series.
Earlier in the 2022 season, Hoberg was one missed call away from calling a “perfect game” when he went 122-for-123 in a game between the Phillies and Colorado Rockies. His only blemish was a strike that he had called a ball.
