H. Ruth Snyder, 94, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours on Sunday, December
18, 2022 at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center.
Ruth was born in Alford, Indiana on January 7, 1928, to Carlin and Flossie (Scudder) Preston.
Her first husband, Fred Malotte, passed away in 1974. She married H. Robert Snyder in 1983,
and he preceded her in death in 2014.
Ruth was a lifelong resident of Pike County, Indiana. Ruth worked as a bookkeeper, and she
spent many years as the treasurer for Pike Central High School before she retired in 1992. She
was a faithful member of the Petersburg Free Methodist Church where she served others in any
way she could.
Ruth’s focus was always on her family. She cherished the opportunity to be a daughter, sister,
mother, grandmother and great grandmother (MeMe). She approached life with a humble,
loving, servant’s heart that was noticeable to all those with whom she came in contact.
Ruth is survived by her daughter Michelle (Kyle) Bennett of Jasper, Indiana; one granddaughter,
Claire (Michael) Sutherby of Haubstadt, Indiana; two grandsons, Evan (Kelsey) Bennett of Spring
Arbor, Michigan and Ethan (Tara) Bennett of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and six great grandchildren,
Eden Bennett, Welles Bennett, Mason Sutherby, Brooks Sutherby, Brady Bennett, and Blaire
Bennett. Ruth is also survived by two sisters, Esther Bright of Galion, Ohio and Mary (Jerry)
Carter of Petersburg, Indiana; and nieces and nephews.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Carolyn Henson; and two brothers-in-
law, James Bright and Elza Henson, Jr.
Ruth’s journey is complete, and she is now at home with her Lord. She fought the good fight.
She finished the race. She remained faithful. Her legacy will live on through her family and all
those touched by her life.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, December 22, 2022, at Petersburg Free Methodist Church, with burial to follow at Walnut Hills Cemetery. Visitation will be from Noon until service time at the church.
