Washington Police were busy over the weekend responding to two separate shooting incidents. Late Saturday night, police were called to East Main after a report of shots fired. A fight had allegedly occurred between 30-year-old Edwin Gilberto Morrero Gelpi and a female. Edwin allegedly pointed a handgun at the individual and fired multiple shots in the air before leaving the scene. Police later located Edwin’s vehicle on West Walnut and established a perimeter. He was taken into custody without incident and charged with criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, pointing a firearm, and domestic battery. The second incident happened about two hours later, around 3:30 a.m., when officers were called back to the area along E. Main St. on another report of shots fired. When officers arrived, they found that a large fight had taken place and that 28-year-old Moises Vargas had fired a handgun into the air. Vargas had left the scene and was found later after police conducted a traffic stop on his vehicle. A handgun was located during the traffic stop. Vargas was charged with criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon. No injuries were reported in either incident.
