In its first meeting of the new calendar year, the IHSAA Executive Committee voted to change the Boys and Girls Cross Country State Tournaments from a four week format to a three week format. By an 11-6 vote, next fall’s state
tournaments will be contested on three consecutive Saturdays and begin one week later than previously scheduled. The new format calls for 25 sectionals and five regionals feeding into the state finals while eliminating the semi-state round. The top five teams and top 15 individuals not on a qualifying team will advance from each round to the next.

The list of candidates for the Colts head coaching job is growing now that the NFL has almost finished up the wild card round of the playoffs.
Indianapolis has submitted requests to interview Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka, 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans, and Giants defensive coordinator Wink Martindale. Prominent coaches already interviewed include Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris, Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn and Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steichen last week. And interim head coach Jeff Saturday is still under consideration.
The Los Angeles Chargers have fired offensive coordinator quarterbacks coach Shane Day. Changes have been expected to the staff following a 10-7 season and a stunning loss on Saturday in a wild-card playoff game in which the Chargers surrendered a 27-point lead to lose to the Jacksonville Jaguars 31-30.
Lebron James joined Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the only players to ascend the 38,000-point plateau in NBA career scoring. Kareem’s record stands as the lone career scoring milestone remaining on James’ list and it’s in sight as James is only 364 points away from the record of 38,367 points.
