The Knox County Jail had talks on expanding in 2019, but the COVID pandemic halted those plans.
Now talk has resumed, and construction on the jail expansion began last year.
New offices and holding cells are starting to take place on the inside, and the walls on the outside are up.
Additional jail cells are being built near the back of the building, which will bring in an additional 100 beds.
Work release in Knox County will be relocating from 8th St. to the jail.
According to Knox County Sheriff Doug Vantlin, the project is on track and expected to be completely wrapped up by the end of this year.
