A bill permitting employers to offset potential layoffs is advancing at the Indiana capital building.
Senate Bill 347 known as the “Workshare Bill” was written by State Senator Eric Bassler of Washington representing this area.
Bassler says the proposal would allow companies to reduce the number of hours employees work instead of laying off a certain percentage of its workforce.
So instead of a company laying off 25% of its workforce, it could instead reduce the hours for all employees by 25%.
The bill passed in the Senate Committee on Pensions this week.
