Janet E. Steimel, 83, of Washington, Indiana, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on February 25, 2023 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Evansville, Indiana. Janet was born on March 2, 1939 and is the daughter of the late Carl and Gladys (Stephenson) Brocksmith. She married the love of her life, Jim, on June 3, 1961, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Vincennes, Indiana.
Janet had retired from First Federal Savings and Loan after working for over 30 years in the banking industry. She was a member of the St. Vincent’s De Paul Society and RSVP. Her greatest joy was her family and being the mother of her five boys. She was their number one fan for over 30 years at their numerous sporting events. She also loved to volunteer, bake pies (her specialty), cook for her family, and garden in her flowers. Janet truly enjoyed doing for others.
Surviving Janet is her husband; Jim, children; Brad (Jan), Jeff (Desiree), Rodney (Dawn), Shane (Kristin) and Blaine (Nicah); sisters, Nancy Wilson (daughter Amanda) and Carla Brocksmith; grandchildren, Emily, Christina, Jessica, Jacob, Benjamin, Morgan, Kyle, Kerry, Brock, Blake, MaKenna, KaLeigh, Lindsey, Gabriel, and Lincoln; and 9 (ish) great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Monday, February 27, 2023, from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home. The funeral mass will be Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at 9:00 am at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. Father Paul will be the officiant. Burial will follow immediately after at Bethel Cemetery in Freelandville, Indiana. Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the care of Janet.
