A woman from Petersburg has been indicted by a federal grand jury on fifteen counts of wire fraud after being accused of embezzling over $156,000 from a local non-profit organization in Dubois County. Ellen Corn, 47, has been serving as the executive director of Mentors for Youth, formerly known as Big Brothers Big Sisters of Dubois County, since 2017. Corn was responsible for entering all income and expenses into the organization’s software. She was found to have used the organization’s credit card for personal expenses without authorization, resulting in unauthorized purchases totaling over $156,000 over a five-year period. Corn faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted of the wire fraud charges. The hearing will take place in federal district court. Following the arrest, Mentors for Youth issued a statement expressing their remorse for any distress this may have caused and reassuring the public that they have worked to implement changes to prevent this from occurring in the future. They will continue to serve at-risk children with transparency, accountability, and integrity. The organization remains committed to its mission of supporting youth in the community.
