A former Washington native has been granted clemency for the remainder of his sentence in Indianapolis. 41-year-old Tommy Alsman was convicted of dealing meth in Posey County in 2019 and was being held in the New Castle Correctional Facility, with his earliest release date set for February 14, 2024. Governor Holcomb issued the grant of clemency based on Alsman’s health. He has been diagnosed with a stage 4 inoperable tumor of the brain and is believed to be in terminal condition with only a few weeks to live. He will be in hospice care the rest of his life, and the condition is not expected to improve. The Indiana Parole Board recommended the sentence be commuted on Monday.
