Washington’s City Council met Monday evening and approved four ordinances introduced two weeks ago. Rising prices for supplies and equipment were the reasons for the need for two ordinances. The first raised fees and the share of costs for equipment that the city’s Electric Department charges contractors and developers. Rising costs for maintenance supplies and equipment also led to an ordinance raising the rental costs for the Kiwanis Cabin, Community Building, and Pavillion at Eastside Park. A third ordinance amended the city’s Economic Development Rider to bring it into agreement with recent state changes. And the final ordinance amended the city’s salary ordinance. In other business, the Council voted to have the mayor file the annual application for the state and federal grants that fund the city’s bus system.
Following the council meeting, the Board of Public Works and Safety met and approved a request to close streets around Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church and the Washington Catholic Schools for the annual summer social June 2 and 3. The Board also approved a request from Bill Dobson Ford to close South Street from Meridian to NW 3rd, and NW 1st and NW 2nd from Main to South Street fro their annual Customer Appreiciation Day car show on June 10. The Board also approved the second round of payments to Mitchell and Stark Construction for the Wastewater Treatment Improvement Project.
