The Loogootee School Board’s regular meeting was held in conjunction with the first of two state-mandated public hearings on the building project. Under personnel, the board was given the following recommendations by Dr. Harmon and approved by the board: the transfer of Olivia Pride from elementary teacher to 7th and 8th grade Language Arts for the 23-24 school year; Bristol Yoder was hired as high school English teacher; Nick Bowling was hired as golf volunteer coach; and Stephanie Gilbert was hired as CTE coordinator for the 2023-24 school year. Resignations were accepted from Mariah Obrien as music assistant and Madelyn Cage as high school art teacher.
Shelley Christmas, technology and curriculum director, recommended the sale of outdated Chromebooks, which students actually pay for through book fees over a four year period. The school unfortunately can’t give the computers away for free, but students can purchase their Chromebooks for $5 if they choose. This is available to students in grades 4, 8, and 12.
The board also approved the first reading of the 2023–24 LMS / LHS Student Handbook.
A donation in the amount of $850 to be split between art, student council, and lunch accounts. The donation by Becky Whitworth was made in memory of Nathan Sheetz and the class of 2012.
