The Daviess County Council met on Wednesday morning and heard a report from the Wage Committee. Councilman Tom Schaffer said the committee had considered the county’s financial condition, expected revenues for the next year, national economic indicators, and the consumer price index. The committee recommends that Daviess County employees receive a 3.5% raise for next year. The council will now meet with the county department heads before making a final decision.
In other business, the Council approved an ordinance for the Daviess County Visitors Commission. The new ordinance cleans up some language in previous ordinances. The Council also voted to place 1.5% of Visitor Commission funds into an investment account for potential projects in the future.
The Council also approved additional appropriation requests from the Clerk’s office, appropriated funds received by CASA, and approved a grant to the Daviess County YMCA. They also approved a request from County Clerk Lauren Milton to transfer leftover funds from the primary election to the purchase of a new document scanner. Also approved was a request from the Superior Court to transfer funds from office supplies to the transcript and deposition account.
Sheriff Gary Allison was given permission to begin the process of purchasing two replacement vehicles. Allison said Washington Chrysler has two vehicles on the lot. Allison said this would be in place of a request for new vehicles in next year’s budget.
At the end of the meeting, Councilman Mike Sprinkle commented on a report that showed the tax rate in Daviess County is in the lower third of Indiana’s 92 counties.
