Pansy Jean Walls went home to be with Jesus, her Savior, at 7:00 AM on June22, 2023 at Ketcham Memorial Center in Odon IN. She was 92 years old.
Pansy was born to Imogene Wilkinson, April 4, 1931, and spent most of her life in Loogootee, IN. She married Delbert Walls, June 25, 1950. They were married 60 years before his passing. They raised four children. Summertime was busy working in the garden, planting, harvesting, and preserving vegetables. On a summer Sunday afternoon Pansy would often spread a blanket on the lawn for a picnic with their four children. Wintertime brought Loogootee Lions basketball season and Pansy was an avid Lion fan. She and Delbert had season tickets throughout their daughter’s cheerleading and both their son’s time on the court. They continued attending Lions basketball well after their children graduated high school.
Pansy loved Jesus, babies, and butterflies. Pansy always wanted to have many children and with her children’s spouses and grandchildren she was well satisfied with her “kids.” She was extremely happy when grandchildren and great-grandchildren came along.
Pansy received Jesus as her Savior at age 25 and she would share with others the love and care of Jesus for them. She was a member of Popcorn Christian Church in Springville, IN at the time of her passing. She had also attended Loogootee Christian Church for many years. She had been a Sunday school teacher for over 50 years. She mainly taught the junior level (4-6 graders) and loved to see them grow in knowledge and understanding of Jesus. Once she was no longer able to attend church regularly, she would attend and often lead Bible study at Ketcham. For a time, she would go to the memory unit there, the Rose House, and read the Bible and Bible story books to the residents there. While at Ketcham, many of the nurses, aides and staff would come by and talk to her and pray with her. She loved the staff at Ketcham and they loved her. She often spoke of the wonderful care she received there.
Pansy was a beautician by trade and worked for Bernetta (Davis) Hollingsworth and Vonda Wininger for many years. When the opportunity arose, she would also talk to people about Jesus as she did their hair. When younger, due to no washing machine at home, she would go to the laundromat and would often strike up conversations with total strangers and tell them about Jesus.
Pansy is survived by her children: Deborah (Jim) Taber of Bedford IN, Rebecca (Frank) Uffner of Lebanon PA, Delbert (Holly) Walls Jr. of Olathe KS and Michael (Sherri) Walls of Bedford IN; her siblings: Marcia Crays of Loogootee IN and John (Anne Marie) Crays of Loogootee, IN. She also had 8 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Pansy was preceded in death by her step-father, John Crays, Sr., mother, Imogene Crays, husband Delbert Walls Sr., sister Georgia Terrell and son-in-law, Jim Taber.
Pansy will be dearly missed by all her family and friends, but all are glad she is now with the Savior that she so dearly loved.
