David C. Wanke, a 48-year-old resident of Vincennes, has been found guilty of child molesting following a jury trial. The case involved his five-year-old granddaughter. Deputy Prosecutor Mike Steiner presented the state’s case, which led to a swift verdict from the jury after only 20 minutes of deliberation. In addition to the child molesting charge, the jury also considered evidence of Wanke being a habitual offender, resulting in a guilty verdict for that offense as well. The conviction carries severe consequences, and Wanke could potentially face up to 70 years in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for August, where the court will determine the appropriate punishment for Wanke’s crimes.
